The Umpqua River lighthouse, surrounded by the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, is 165 feet above sea level and is very similar to the Heceta Head lighthouse. The 1st Order Fresnel Lens in Umpqua River is one of the few still in use in the United States. Umpqua River's red and white light is the only colored signal on the Oregon Coast. The lens is 5 feet in diameter, 10 feet high and weighs 2 tons. It consists of 800 prisms, hand cut in Paris, France in 1890. Everyone says to stay until dark to see the light on the surrounding trees. The lighthouse is off US 101 about a mile south of Winchester Bay. The former Umpqua River Coast Guard Station is now the visitor's center and museum. The guided tours of the lighthouse begin here.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
