The Split Rock lighthouse is on the end of a 130 foot tall cliff in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. In 1979 replica foghorns were placed on the fog signal building. In 2008 the lighthouse had a paint job. After you pay the fee you can take the 45 minute guided tour, watch the 22 minute film and visit their gift shop. Then you walk on the path down to the water and take the 171 steps down to the shore. Enjoy the view! Just remember you have to walk back up the steep 171 steps. In 2011 it became the twelfth lighthouse to be honored as a National Historic Landmark.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
Our first time here was 9:00 in the morning on September 24, 2001. We thought we would take our shots with no one else around. What we didn't know was we would be shooting right into the sun. I can't believe it took us almost nine years to get back here. Unfortunately in 2009 we had cloudy skies when we got down to the shore after 5:00 pm. Then in 2012 we didn't have time.
